Well, we are into October and the weather has been fantastic, in the low thirties.
It is darker in the mornings, harder to get out the bed and getting darker early in the evenings but I am getting cooler at night. The people holidaying from England at the moment still think it’s lovely and warm.
Anyway, I have read loads of papers this month but am struggling to find things of interest but several people have made the following comment to me this month. “Great to have the Newsletter back because whatever you write about it is all we hear about the area, so anything is better then nothing”. So on that note here goes!!
Apparently it has been 40 years since the Ferries stopped between Gibraltar and Algeciras but are now going to restart operations as from next month.
The shipping company Transcome will have a 150 seat catamaran that will run about four times a day. They think this will cost between 6 – 8 Euros and I suppose it could be something to do whilst on holiday, morning in Gibraltar over to Algeciras and back to Gibraltar.
I know you always here about this problem but when reading about it, I never realised the level of people who were loosing their lives.
The President of the Junta de Andalucia, Jose Antonio Grinan is to propose to the Moroccan Government that there is a need for a Joint Effort to limit the traffic of Illegal Immigrants across The Straits of Gibraltar. I think what made me carrying on reading was what happened only a few days ago.
A boat loaded with UP TO 70 people, this means they do not know how many were on the boat, sank near Perejil Island. This tragically led to many deaths as only 11 people were rescued and eight bodies were recovered. Sadly that is all that can be accounted for and nobody will know who these people are, just recorded as lost at sea.
A Ronda wine has won the Grand Gold Medal for its Pinot Noir 2008.
The wine was the sole winner at the prestigious Mondial du Pinot Noir event which was held in Sierre at the end of August. Would you believe it was in competition with 1,143 wines from 25 countries. This wine was judged by an international panel of wine experts and journalists. If you would like to try the wine it is “Cortijo Los Aguilares - Pinot Noir 2008”
Yes, that’s right the moving of sand. For the river in Guadiaro to flow properly, it was necessary to remove sand from 40 linear metres of coastline. The work consisted of moving around 40,000 cubic metres of sand that will end up on Sotogrande’s beach.
Apparently, this problem reoccurs very frequently and although various solutions have been proposed over the years, the only answer found to the situation is to extract the sand on a fairly regular basis to make sure the river flows into the sea.

Smoking is to be banned in all enclosed public spaces in Spain including all leisure areas, Bars and Restaurants. This has actually been confirmed by the Health Minister and I love her for it. Just in case you’ve not realised by now I am not a smoker, next she is going for the youngsters and alcohol, keep up the good work, that’s all I can say.
Building work is coming to an end and the Rental / Sale prices will soon be released. Hopefully by the next Newsletter we will find out “Who” and “What” is locating here in Alcaidesa.

A couple of things that I read that brought a smile to my face!!
Would you believe at this present economic climate, San Roque has brought a New Town Hall Clock and spent 50,000 euro’s on it!! Surely, they could have spent the money on something more useful but this has just been put down to ‘Bad Timing’.
Real Madrid has spent 250 million Euros on players over this summer.
The President Florention Perez must be really fed up with purchasing footballer players that he has decided to spend his money on a Disney-Style Theme Park about the Club near the Barajas Airport – well whatever takes your fancy, if you have the money do it!!
Do you know what they have in common here in Spain – no then I will tell you!!
Cattle are fed hormones to produce more meat!!
Brothels in Barcelona give hormones to the ladies of the nights so that their activities are more labour intensive.
Lastly, not in Spain but America something strange happened to a farmer and on reading this thought we have something in common!!
His sheep began to disappear at night – my flies and mosquitoes etc., began to disappear at night, so we both arranged a trap to catch the villain. If you look at the photos below which is my story and which is the farmers – can you see the similarity?
